GPN Becky Millar
I qualified as a registered adult nurse from Edinburgh Napier University in 2009 and began working in the Western General Hospital and then the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. In 2013, I retrained as a community staff nurse, becoming a district nurse on completion of a Post Graduate diploma in District Nursing at Queen Margaret University.
I began working at the Green Practice in 2016 - training under Pauline Waugh, our lead nurse. Pauline mentored me whilst completing the NHS Education and General Practice Nursing programme in 2018 and Non-Medical Prescribing for Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals in 2020 at Edinburgh Napier University.
I have a special interest in long-term conditions and tissue viability. |

I qualified as a nurse in Edinburgh in 1990 and I started in the Green Practice in 1997 having worked in the regional infectious diseases unit for 5 years as a Staff Nurse and HMP Barlinnie Glasgow for 2 years as a Practitioner Nurse. I am the Practice Nurse Team Leader responsible for the professional development and management of the nurse team.
I gained a Fellowship by Assessment (FBA) from the Queens Nursing Institute in Scotland in 2006 and I am a trainer currently teaching and mentoring Practice Nurse students. I also teach medical students within the practice.
I have a special interest in respiratory disease and coronary heart disease and we provide nurse lead clinics and appointments for patients with these diseases.
I am a nurse prescriber and can prescribe medications for a large number or diseases and conditions such as asthma or minor ailments such as urinary tract infections (UTI) and repeat medications such as contraceptive pills.
I plan and facilitate the practice's protected learning time afternoons on a Wednesday once a month which we use for staff training and development to help improve our services and patient care.
